The average internet user is subjected to an absurd number of advertisements, and there is very little that can be done as an act of resistance. Adblocker Chrome extensions like Ublock Origin exist, but they only function on browsers, and Google is doing everything it can to hamstring their effectiveness. There is no way to remove ads on the mobile version of Twitter X, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, etc without paying for their premium editions, and even then that does not protect users from sponsorships. If I want to I can use FireFox, have Ublock origin installed, only interact with my chosen social media on the desktop web version (except TikTok, it only allows use through the app), and still be subjected to advertising. And that is only online, that is not including ads on TV, busses, billboards, radio, and any other noise I am subjected to in my daily life. Adblockers can afford me a small bit of respite but, it is truly impossible to escape advertising in the modern world.
